Flimby Community Centre

February 1st 2010

As you know we have been trying for a community hall in the village for 6 years. We are currently looking to use the Methodist chapel.

A feasibilty study is well under way and we are in negotiations with the Methodist Circuit about the best way froward. We are also in negotiation with Allerdale Council about change of use and planning issues. We hope to have answers to all this and plans to show people by the end of February. The aim is to hold a public meeting and show you the residents what is peoposed and to get your support.

This would not just be a facility for youth but for the whole village and before the detractors start let me say that it is not in competition with the Workingmens Club.

This village currently has some 800 houses and more expansion is planned. If we don't take this opportunity to get and utilize a venue in the village for the village then the chance is lost and may never come again. Flimby used to be a vibrant, lively and busy community and we can help it to be so once again if we can create a meeting space, a venue for a variety of activities that is open and welcoming to residents of every age, background and ability can only improve every residents lot so please watch out for posters advertising the meeting in local shops and come along with your thoughts and hopefully your support.
